Edna Ann Engel, 95, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at a local care home.
Edna was born July 1, 1909 in Randall, the daughter of Edward and Lydia Dobbins Bodding. She graduated from Randall High School and attended Kansas State University. She worked for the Auburn Washburn Unified School District as the Food Service Director, retiring in 1973.
She volunteered for the Shawnee County Election Board. Edna was a member of the Randall United Methodist Church and the World War II Glider Pilots Organization and was a 50 year member of the Shawnee County Home Demonstration Unit.
Edna married Harry F. Engel on January 23, 1930 in Burr Oak. He passed away on March 4, 1986. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Carl and Ralph Bodding, a son, Rex A. Engel, a grandson, Scott T. Dexter, and a great grandson, Dallas J. Dexter.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Dexter and husband, David, Topeka, one granddaughter, Marsha Diggs and husband Mike, Wichita; two grandsons, Jeffrey Dexter, Lawrence and Brett Dexter and wife, Leann, Topeka. Seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Marie B. Powell, Topeka.
A Graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at 1:30 P.M. Edna will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
