Edmund "Junior" Lewis Anderson passed away peacefully on June 3, 2010, after a brief illness. Ed, was born August 13, 1928, near Alma, Kansas, the son of Edmund J. and Margaret A. (Orton) Anderson.
He was raised in the Wabunsee County area (near Alma), and attended Wabunsee High school, and graduated from Hayden High School (formerly Capital City High School) in 1946. Ed served in the U.S. Army active duty from 1950 – 1952 during the Korean War. He had since resided in Topeka. He retired from Westar (formerly KPL) in 1988. He was an enthusiastic fan of the K.U. Jayhawks, as well as an avid fan of Elvis Presley's music. He was a member of the Mater Dei (formerly Assumption) Catholic Church, American Legion Post 198 in Osage City, and a retired 55-year member of the IBEW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lawrence, and his sister, Shirley (Larry). He is survived by his sister in law Marie L. Anderson, eight nieces and a nephew, Mary (Randy) Clinton, Kathy (James) Brooks, Linda (David) Kaberline, Deborah Anderson, MD, Cheryl (Ernie) Wood, Tammy (Randy) Morgan, Janel (Niles) Brandstoettner, Danette Wood, and Lawrence J. (Peggy) Anderson, plus a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 7 at Mater Dei Parish Assumption Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. He will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. followed by a parish rosary.
