Edith L. Marr, 90, of Wichita, KS, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, KS. She was born June 3, 1925 in Davenport, WA, the daughter of Wade and Lula (Simmons) West.
Edith graduated from El Centro California High School. She was employed by Consolidated Vultee Aircraft as a riveter on the B-24 Liberator in San Diego, CA during WWII. She was a graduate of the Cadet Nurse Corps at Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Topeka. Edith was employed by the Santa Fe Hospital in Topeka and the VA Hospital in Wichita. She was a member of the College Hill United Methodist Church in Wichita.
Edith married Merlin L. Marr on September 1, 1949 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Ina Elizabeth Platero Cory, Eva Marie Threlkeld, William Wade West and Ned Byron West.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn L. Marr of Wichita and Jean (Edward) LeCluyse of Chapel Hill, NC and two grandchildren, Joel LeCluyse of Raleigh, NC and Ryan LeCluyse of San Francisco, CA.
Private committal services will take place in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2015 in the chapel at the College Hill United Methodist Church in Wichita.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her honor to the Breakthrough Club of Sedgwick County, 1010 N. Main, Wichita, KS 67201.
Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
