Orville Kerr, 90, of Wamego, died Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Wamego City Hospital. He was born July 28, 1912 near Americus, Kansas where he lived until graduating from Americus High School in 1930. In 1934 he received a BS degree from College of Emporia and in 1941, a MS degree from Emporia State University.
Between 1935 and 1945, Orville taught school in Burns and Eldorado. In 1945 he moved to Hutchinson, Kansas he was a principal at several schools, including 17 years at Morgan Elementary. He retired in 1977 and stayed in Hutchinson until July of 1998 when he moved to Wamego.
Orville was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hutchinson from 1945 to 1998, and First Presbyterian Church of Wamego since 1998. He was formerly a member of Kansas National Education Association, Hutchinson Retired Teachers, Kiwanis and R.S.V.P. (a community service organization).
He married Flora Ellen Woodhull of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas in 1935. She survives. Also surviving are his brother, Keith, of Grand Junction, CO; his son, Duane Kerr of Wamego; his daughter, Nancy Courtney of Ft. Collins, CO; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois and his son, Kenneth.
A memorial service for family and Wamego friends was held at Grandview Suites in Wamego on Sunday, January 26, 2003. Inurnment will be in the spring at Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson. A memorial service will be announced and held in Hutchinson following the inurnment.
