Dyckie Wallace

Dyckie Wallace, 77, Topeka, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at a Topeka
care center, where she had been taken for recuperation following surgery.

She was a native Kansan who had returned home four years ago to be near
family in the Topeka area and Garden City. She was born in Scott City on
October 8, 1925 to Richard and Iva Juanita Bradstreet.

A successful artist for nearly forty years in southern California, her art
was a lifelong pursuit but became a livelihood in the 1960s when she and
her husband, Hubert, began traveling to art shows throughout the Los
Angeles and central coastal areas of California. She was a prolific oil
painter of landscapes, scenes of the modern west, and symbols of the
farming life. Hundreds of patrons purchased her work over the years. Some
of her closest friends were a circle of artists who toured together, and
who produced a series of popular twice-a-year open home art shows for many
years in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.

She married Hubert on January 30, 1943 and he survives her. Their children
are Rick Wallace and his wife of Vashon Island, Washington; and Susan Wales
and her husband of Ponca CIty, Oklahoma. Surviving sisters are Lavonna
Creviston of Topeka; and June Young of Rialto, California. Her five
grandchildren will be pallbearers at the services.

Services will be at 11:00am, Thursday, May 8, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel
in Topeka. Graveside services will follow at Mount
Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Wallace will lie in state at the funeral home from
1:00pm to 9:00pm Wednesday.

Mrs. Wallace loved flowers. The family also would welcome memorial
contributions to the American Lung Association, 4300 Drury Lane, Topeka, KS
66604.
