Dwight Wesley "Deek" McClure, 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Sunday, November 1, 2015.
Dwight was born September 20, 1935, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Ulis Vaughn McClure and Stella (Bach) McClure. He served in the United States Army from 1955-57 and married Myrna Rae Herren on July 6, 1958.
He retired in 1989 after 34 years of service at ATSF Railway, now BNSF Railway. He then worked for 12 years as a doorman for the Kansas Senate. He was a long-time member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Topeka.
He is survived by his loving wife, Myrna McClure; sons, Jeffrey V. (Kayla), of Topeka, and Michael W., of Sugar Land, Texas; three grandchildren, Ashley Williams, of Kansas City, Missouri, Darren Voight, of Rolla, Missouri, and Samantha Melton, of Springfield, Missouri; one great-grandson, Wesley; two sisters, Jeanne Moody, of Dillon, South Carolina, and Ilene Colbert, of Manhattan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Anderson and brother, Paul McClure.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka, KS 66606. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. A private family inurnment will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
