Duane G. Jehlik, 90, passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 at Aldersgate. He was born July 7, 1917 in Cuba, Kansas the son of George and Marie Jehlik (Vacha).
Duane graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. He served in the army at Ft. Stevens, Oregon. After a short tenure with Mobil Oil, he went to work for the State Board of Agriculture, Division of Water Resources in Topeka. He retired from that department in 1982.
On June 28, 1941, he married Ethel Dorothy Haller in Alma, Kansas. They lived in Topeka until her death in 1972. On May 29, 1982, he married Rosabelle Zarker. She passed away in 2004.
Duane loved to hunt and fish as a young man, and taught his children to do the same while respecting nature and wildlife. After retirement he and Rosabelle began to travel. They enjoyed sightseeing and camping throughout the United States.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives and his son, Robert Jehlik.
Survivors include: Son, Kenneth Jehlik (Carolee), Garden City, Kansas; Sister, Dolores Fisher, Lubbock, Texas; Daughter-in-law, Stefani Jehlik, Topeka, Kansas; Stepdaughters, Sherry Jaymes (Bob), Osage Beach, Missouri; and Terry Zarker (Steve Groves), Edmunds, Washington; Stepsons, Gary Zarker (Janet Primomo), Seattle, Washington; and Larry Zarker (Susan Braden), Takoma Park, Maryland; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Family will greet friends Wednesday, July 2nd from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be written to the charity of the donor's choice.
