Dr. William "Bill" Murphy, D.D.S.
Dr. William "Bill" Murphy, 94 of Topeka, Kansas peacefully departed this world on December 7, 2019. Bill graduated from Nelson High School in Nelson, Nebraska and served his Country as a Navy Medical Corpsman on Oahu during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy he attended Doane College followed by the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln.
On June 12, 1949 Bill married Dorothy Anderson. The couple settled in Neligh, Nebraska in 1954 where Dr. Murphy started his dental practice. That marriage produced 4 children: Patricia (John), Kathy (Jim), Mark (Nancy) and Michael (Dori), 10 grandchildren: Amy, Holly, Megan, Jillian, Katie, Brynn, Brent, Kelli, Casey and Maggie, as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
Dr. Murphy's career included a private practice in Neligh followed by professorships on the faculty of both the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln and Baylor Dental School in Dallas, Texas. He was very accomplished at his craft, widely recognized for his expertise in the field of dentistry and always found ways to give back to both his chosen profession and the communities in which he resided.
In keeping with Bill's wishes, the family will have, at a later date, a private celebration of his life. In memory of his passion for education, dentistry, and caring for others, the family requests any memorials be designated for The Dr. William and Dorothy Murphy Memorial Scholarship which has been established at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska or the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska.
