Dr. Williama. Whitehead

Dr. William Arthur Whitehead, 76, of Topeka, died Monday, December 6, 2004 at his residence. He was born on November 9, 1928 at Topeka, the son of Floyd S. and Bertha A. Owens Whitehead. He graduated from Topeka High School. He received a BA in Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1950. He attended the University of Kansas City and received his PHD from Vanderbilt University in 1956. He was a member of Society of Sigma Xi for promotion of research in science and was recoginized in Whos Who in American Science and was a published researcher in Clinical Psychology. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1951 through 1953. He was employed by the Veterans Administration for nearly 40 years, serving more than 32 years with the Topeka VA Hospital. He married Saundra Louise Parks on March 21, 1988 at Lawrence, Ks. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Jayne Elizabeth Whitehead of Oxford, Ohio. Graveside Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Whitehead will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
