Dr. D. Kelly

August 29, 1941 — March 4, 2018

Dr. Ronald D. Kelly passed away Sunday evening on March 4, 2018. He was born on August 29, 1941, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, the only son to Ernest and Doris (Dazey) Kelly.

Ronald married Linda Seidle on August 10, 1963, in Columbus, Indiana.

In 1964, Ronald graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering. After graduating, he and Linda moved to Santa Monica, California, where he worked for McDonald Douglass. After several years, they moved back to Lafayette, Indiana, so that Ronald could go back to Purdue to study veterinary medicine. He graduated in 1975 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. Ronald then worked in private practice in both Tell City, Indiana, and Bloomington, Indiana. He then joined the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (F.S.I.S.) and moved to Wooster, Ohio. After living there for a couple of years, he and his family moved to West Liberty, Iowa, where they stayed for 9 years. In 1991, they moved to Topeka, Kansas. He continued to work with the USDA F.S.I.S. until 2009, when he retired as a Deputy District Manager after 29 years of service.

Throughout his entire life, Ronald always had a love of airplanes. As a teenager, he earned his private pilot's license. He enjoyed making and flying model airplanes. He loved going on historic and vintage plane rides when they came to Topeka.

Ronald also had a love for traveling. He traveled to many different countries, which included Germany, France, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, and England. Two years ago, he and Linda made a trip to Ireland so that he could see where his ancestors came from. He spent many years and hours researching his family's ancestry.

Having grown up in Indiana, Ronald loved Purdue University and was an avid fan, especially of Purdue basketball.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Linda, of Topeka, Kansas; his two daughers, Jennifer Kelly and Kristen Kelly, both of Overland Park, Kansas; one granddaughter, Carina Yuen; and his honorary daughter, Maren Below, of Leer, Germany.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 9, at the Old Abbey Chapel at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5375 SW. 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606 or Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604.
