Dr. Peter C. Novotny, 76, Topeka, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 at Stormont-Vail Hospital
He was born Aug. 20, 1930 in Vienna, Austria, the son of Seigfreid and Carolina Schuster Novotny. He received his medical degree from the University of Vienna.
Dr. Novotny came to the United States in 1954, returned to Vienna, and came to Topeka in 1955. He did his internship at Flower Hospital, Toledo, OH.
He served his residency at Menninger, and continued his employment there until his retirement in 1998.
He married Dr. Elizabeth Smythe on June 26, 1957 in Topeka. She died June 24, 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah E. Novotny, Boulder, CO and Carol Novotny Neeley, Garden City; four grandchildren, Roman David Bailey, Arjun Novotny-Shandas, Max Novotny Neeley, and Sarita Novotny-Shandas; three brothers, Hans Novotny, Frederick Novotny, and Franz Novotny, all of Vienna; one sister, Lisel Novotny, Vienna.
Dr. Novotny donated his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Peter Novotny Memorial Fund to be given to a Jewish children's orphanage in Europe, and sent in care of the funeral home.
