Dr. Lolafaye F. Coyne died on January 9, 2015 at Topeka, KS.
Dr. Coyne was born December 10, 1926 in Topeka to Lester T. and Faye Rush Coyne.
She received an AB degree in mathematics from Washburn University, an MA degree in mathematics from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. degree in mathematical statistics from Kansas State University. She was a member of several honorary mathematics and scholarship fraternities.
She was Director of Statistical Laboratory at the Menninger Foundation for 47 years and also had served as Associate Director of Hospital Research and Assistant Director of the Research Department. She was an Adjunct Professor in the Psychology Department of the University of Kansas. She was a reviewer for psychiatric and psychological journals. She was a member of the American Statistical Association, Psychometric Society, Society for Psychotherapy Research and Society for Research in Psychopathology.
She was a charter member of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra playing clarinet for 54 years. She played solo clarinet in the Santa Fee Band for over 30 years. She had played in several church orchestras and sung in a church choir.
She was a Patroness with Training of Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, member of Nonoso and member of Sigma Xi, research fraternity.
She is survived by a godson, Eric Weeks, an honorary daughter, Patricia Gibson, several cousins and her beloved dog, Feisty Fox.
Services will be held at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. She will lie in state on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Scranton Cemetery.
