Dr. James D. Mankin
Dr. James D. Mankin, 72 of Topeka, died Saturday, December 17, 2005.
Dr. Mankin was born in Harrison, AR to Alan and Delta Wagley Mankin on April 29, 1933.
He graduated from Westminster College, Fulton, MO. with a B.A. degree in 1955. He later graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1959. Dr. Mankin received a Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969.
He served two years as a Captain in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1961 and was stationed in Japan.
Dr. Mankin entered Public Health Dentistry after having a private practice in Jefferson City, MO. He served five years with the Kansas Dept. of Health as Assistant Director of the Dental Division; he then served as Director of the Division from 1968 until his retirement in 1992.
Dr. Mankin was a life member of the American Dental Association and a life member of the Kansas Dental Association.
He married Laura M. Jinks in Jefferson City, MO on August 21, 1954.
Dr. Mankin is survived by his wife; daughter, Linda Mokeski and husband Paul; two grandsons, Michael and Bryan Mokeski, all of Carrollton, TX; and one sister, Betty Jones, Jefferson City, MO.
A funeral service for Dr. Mankin will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. He will lie in state at 12 Noon on Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
