Douglas L. Burbach, 85, Topeka, passed away March 4, 2010 at Plaza West Regional Health Center.
He was born January 8, 1925 in Collyer, KS, the son of Benjamin and Helen Burbach. He attended school in Trego County with extended education following at Fort Hays College for one year. Douglas then joined the Navy on July 1, 1943 with completion of service on April 28, 1946 with rank of Seaman 1st Class. His education then resumed at Washburn University, in Topeka, where he graduated in 1949 with a degree in Accounting. His first and lifelong job was at Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Topeka. He enjoyed 38 years working in the accounting department, with the job title of Controller. He retired April 1, 1987.
Douglas married Betty L. Angelbeck at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, KS on June 11, 1950. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Vicki (Rod) Tanner of Wichita, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughter, Sandra (Byron) Glotzbach of Topeka, grandchildren Tracy Glotzbach and Dustin Glotzbach of Topeka, Susan (David) Lintz of Lee's Summit, MO and 4 great-grandchildren.
Douglas will lie in state Sunday from 1:00-8:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Topeka. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
