Douglas K. Wittmer, 54, Topeka, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at St.
Francis Health Center.
He was born Nov. 17, 1952 in Sabetha, the son of O.J. and Frances V.
Barndt Wittmer. He came to Topeka with his family in 1960, where he
graduated from Topeka West High School in 1971. He graduated from
Kansas State University in 1975 with a BS in business. He was a
member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
In 1974, while in college, he earned his real estate license.
Following his graduation, he returned to Topeka and worked in the
family business, Wittmer Farm Realty. In 1992 he started Land Kansas
Real Estate, where he was the Broker and actively sold property until
his death.
He was a member of Mater Dei Parish, formerly Holy Name Parish, Topeka
Lodge #17 AF&AM, and the Arab Shrine, where he was in the Oriental
Band unit. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Topeka Area Association of Realtors,
and also served several terms on the Governmental Affairs Committee. He was a
member of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, Topeka Home Builders
and the Sertoma Evening Club.
Doug married Barbara J. McNeely on Sept, 29, 1984 at Most Pure Heart
of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include a brother, Jerry Wittmer of Topeka; two
sisters, Janis Vander Laan and husband, Dave of Tempe, AZ and Peg
Wittmer of Topeka; two daughters, Hannah Wittmer of Kirksville, MO and
Laura Wittmer of Topeka; two step-daughters, Jennifer Tinajero and
husband, Rene and Carey Branam and husband, Ryan, both of Topeka; six
step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at
Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will be on Doug's "farm" west of
Topeka.

Doug will lie in state after 9 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town
Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
