Dorothy Virginia Larson, 85 of Lee's Summit, formerly of Topeka, passed away Sat., Oct. 29, 2011.
She was born June 27, 1926 in Corpus Christi, TX, the daughter of Danna G. and Mary C. (DeNeefe) Klahr. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO.
Mrs. Larson was a Registered Nurse for the Colmery O'Neill V.A. Medical Center retiring on May 1, 1986.
She was a member of the National Active Retired Federal Employees Association, as well as a volunteer as an assistant to the regional manager for John Knox Retirement Village. She was an advocate in gaining benefits for former members of the Cadet Nurse Corps and aiding in getting legislation passed.
Dorothy married Clarence L. Larson on January 9, 1946, in Netawaka, KS. He preceded her in death in March of 1999. Survivors include her children, Mary L. Ogle, Richard L. Larson and Larry G. Larson all of Topeka; grandchildren, Jolee (Jaison) Eckert, Ryan (Staci) Ogle, Richard Brett (Noel) Larson, and Kylie (Doug) Carter; Seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dan (Marilyn) Ford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Carrie Larson; brother, Joseph Ford; sister, Louise Kemper.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Inurnment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Knox Village Auxiliary, 2400 NW Murray Rd., Lee's Summit, MO 64081.
