Dorothy Jean Tabor, 90, Topeka, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at Midland Hospice House.
Dorothy was born September 13, 1926 near Gaylord, Kansas to Carl John and Lula Matilda (Jacobs) Koch. She graduated from Gaylord High School. In 1944 she began training as a nurse in the Cadet Nurse Program at Christ Hospital in Topeka where she graduated in 1947.
She was later employed as a clerk with the Kansas State Historical Society for 18 years, retiring in 1988. She also worked for many years as a Shawnee County, Kansas Election Board worker.
She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed volunteering for the Topeka Genealogical Society, taking day trips with Active Prime Timers, attending classical music concerts and supporting the Topeka Civic Theatre.
Dorothy married J. C. Tabor on November 18, 1947 in Topeka, KS. He died December 28, 2002. Survivors include son, Stephen (Susan) Tabor, Topeka; and grandchildren, Sean Tabor and Austin Tabor. She was also preceded in death by a son, Eric Carl Tabor; daughter, Shannon Gail Tabor; and sister, Darlene Heroy.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
