Dorothy Sight

Dorothy Ellen Sight, beloved mother, Grannie, and friend, died September 26, 2010, in Topeka. Dorothy was born February 2, 1931, to Lee and Elma LaMont in Stratton, CO. One of seven children, Dorothy grew up and went to school in Junction City. In 1949 she met and married Freeman Simpson. Together they had two sons, Dennis and Courtney. In 1956 she married Richard Parker. Dorothy loved the restaurant business, working her way up to the position of manager at Sidney's Restaurant in Kansas City, MO. It was here that she met Donald Sight, to whom she was married from 1973 until his passing in 1990. She never remarried, saying of him she had "…lost the best man to ever enter her life." They enjoyed traveling together and eventually settled at Table Rock Lake, MO. Dorothy was a people person and she looked forward to weekly card games and visits with neighbors and friends. She was a skilled cook, cross-stitcher, and quilter; she shared her gifts with many. Grannie passed her passions and talents onto her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Don and Bobbie LaMont, and sisters, Deloris Kay and Wilma Hauger.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis Parker, Topeka; and Courtney and wife (Linda) Parker, Springfield, MO; sisters, Thelma Chism, Kansas City; and Margie and husband (Horst) Gruebel, Garden City; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, grand-nieces and nephews, extended family, loving friends and neighbors at Twin Island, and beloved cat, Callie. At her request, no services are planned. Memorial suggestions are for American Cancer Society, Helping Hands Humane Society, and Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka KS 66606. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is handling arrangements.
