Dorothy Ann Rice, 88, of Topeka, passed away Friday, August 19, 2022.
She was born November 11, 1933, near Havensville, Kansas, the daughter of William T. and Fannie M. (Lewelling) Jenkins.
She graduated from Soldier High School in 1951 and attended Clark's School of Business in Topeka and Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kansas.
Dorothy worked at Wolf's Jewelers in the 1960s and later was the document scan clerk and supervisor for the Kansas Legislature, a position she held for 12 years.
She was a member of West Side Christian Church for over 60 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, an elder, and on a number of church committees. She also held various offices during the five decades that she was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF).
She married Omar M. Thieme on May 31, 1953 and they later divorced in 1961. On July 6, 1969, she married Fred A. Rice. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Thieme, her brothers, Lyle Jenkins and Donald Jenkins, and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Reegan Thieme.
Survivors include her children: Pamela (John) Thieme Spadafora, Craig Thieme and James Rice; five grandchildren: Eric (Hannah) Hutton, Emery (Allison) Thieme, Bonnie Thieme, Tim (Megan) Rice, and Jaime (Ryan) Huff; as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at West Side Christian Church, 432 SW Lindenwood, Topeka, KS. Dorothy's family will greet friends at a reception following the service at the church. Private inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
