Dorothy Matthis

Dorothy "Dotty" Marie Matthis, 80, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, February 20 at a local hospital.

She was born June 6, 1924 in Topeka, the daughter of Louis and Esther Watts.

She graduated from Auburn High School in 1942.

She married Lester V. Matthis on February 7, 1943 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1984. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Shane Harrison in 1990 and Deona McGee in 1996.

Survivors include three daughters: Karolyn Harrison of Manhattan, Donna Matthis and Judith Gunn, both of Topeka, three sisters; Waldena Kilgore, Washington, Helen Dougan of Topeka and Mayona Austin of Georgia, three brothers; Donald Watts, Misouri, Fred Watts, Florida, and Floyd Watts of Topeka, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Matthis will lie in state after 1;00 pm, Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends and relatives from 7:00 to 8:00 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday February 25 at First Southern Baptist Church with burial to follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
