Dorothy Marie Schrader

Dorothy Marie Schrader of Topeka, Kansas died on May 9, 2007 at the age of 92, after a brief hospitalization. She was born to Ada and Edward Rabe on September 21, 1914 in Topeka, Kansas. Mrs. Schrader was a 1931 graduate of Topeka High School. As a member of Chi Omega sorority, she attended Kansas State University where she met her husband and they both remained avid lifelong supporters of Wildcat athletics.
Married to Marlin Charles Schrader in 1936, together the Schraders celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage before his death in 2005.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Schrader also worked for many years at Hess Jewelers. Mrs. Schrader was very creative and artistic, and she generously shared her talents with family and friends as well as with such organizations as Girl Scouts of America, and the PEO Chapter to which she belonged, serving as its first president. Bridge, reading, and crafts were favorite pastimes, as well as traveling with her family. She contributed time and resources to a number of organizations benefiting Topekans, and she was a longstanding member of Lowman Memorial United Methodist Church.
In recent years, Mrs. Schrader resided at McCrite Plaza where she maintained an
active lifestyle, including chairing the Residents Council.
Mrs. Schrader is survived by her daughters Barbara Hesse (Burns Hesse) of Topeka and Ellen Feldman-Elliott (Gary Elliott) of Dallas; and her grandchildren Joshua Feldman and Jordana Feldman of Dallas and her step-granddaughters Julianne LeVieux-Elliott and Aimee LeVieux-Elliott of Dallas.
She will lie in state after noon Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday at Mt. Hope Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at Lowman United Methodist Church.
