Dorothy Mae (Briggs) Reeves

Dorothy M. Reeves, 86, Topeka, Kansas, died Friday, April 09, 2010, at Homestead of Topeka.

Dorothy was born in Butler County, KS on April 22, 1923, daughter of Myrtle Bessie Cass and Arnold Read Morrison. Dorothy was raised by her mother and step-father Bert F. Briggs in Topeka.

She attended Topeka Schools and worked at Dollar Cleaners before her marriage. She enjoyed working in her yard, her friends and neighbors.

She married Harold Eugene Reeves on July 4, 1941 at Lawrence, KS. During Harold's military service they lived in Salina, KS. Harold preceded her in death on December 21, 2000. They were married 59 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna and Edward Wright, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren all of Arizona. Brothers Richard and Lucile Briggs of Everett, WA; Larry and Rachella Briggs, Topeka; a sister Lela and John Reb of Topeka; a sister-in-law, Delores Morris, Scranton; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were a brother Earl Morris, sisters Alta Thompson, Mamie Newman, Avis Flickinger, Marjorie Gorrell, and Shirley Briggs.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, with interment to follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Dorothy will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where family will greet friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
