Dorothy M. McNamee, 93, formerly of Topeka, KS, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013, in Sand Springs, OK.
Dorothy was born January 2, 1920, in Basehor, KS, daughter of William and Hilda (Poggemeyer) VanTuyl. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1941 with a degree in Home Economics.
Dorothy married Francis B. McNamee on August 19, 1943. He died February 6, 2000.
Dorothy taught high school students in Staffordville, KS for two years. She also worked at the Naval Air Station in Olathe, KS and Ratcliff's Children's Wear in Topeka, KS.
Dorothy was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Women's Club of the Church, the Spalding Reading Circle, and the Philomathean Club. She did volunteer work at the church for ten years.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Robert McNamee, of Minnville, OR; two daughters, Carol Heinisch, of Osage Beach, MO, and Donna Ryden of Owasso, OK; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Van Tuyl, Leavenworth, KS; and a sister, Jean Theno, Basehor, KS. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, with a Parish Vigil Service at 7:45 p.m.
