Dorothy Linder

Dorothy Marie Linder, 89, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2004 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born January 19, 1915, to W.C. Long and Hulda Anna Cook (Long) in Langdon, Kan. She attended high school in Ozawkie, Kan. She worked for City & Launder for 13 years and Crawford Laundromat for 12 years before beginning her career as a cook for the next 17 years during which time she held jobs with Old Mill Café, Topeka High School and Capper Foundation, where the cinnamon rolls she made each day for employees were immensely popular. She was joined in holy matrimony to Elmer Louis Linder on April 23, 1934, at Topeka. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1986. During their marriage, the couple resided in Wamego and Topeka, where they owned the same home for 65 years. As a young lady, she played baseball, bowled on the Lake City Bowling Team and belonged to the Square Dance Club. Dorothy is survived by a loving family, including a brother, Ralph C. Long, Ozark, Missouri, a daughter, Sharon Kay Gurtler, Topeka, two grandsons, Keith A. Doel, Lenexa, and Kevin W. Doel, Topeka, a granddaughter, Rhonda K. Handley, Grantville, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Doel, on July 10, 2001. Funeral arrangements have been made through Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, with a family reception at First Southern Baptist Church, 1912 Gage Blvd., following the ceremony. Dorothy will lie in state after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Midland Hospice Care, Inc. or Family of God Church in care of Penwell-Gabel and online condolences may be sent to Penwell-Gabel.com.
