Dorothy Johnson, age 82, of Emerado, ND, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society-Larimore.
Dorothy was born January 11, 1936 at Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Robert W. and Della (Tonetti) Bannerman. She was raised and grew to womanhood at Topeka and graduated from Topeka Public School. She received nursing training at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Dorothy worked various jobs as a laborer.
Dorothy was united in marriage to James Johnson on April 4, 1965. After their marriage, they moved to Emerado where Jim was stationed at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. She held various jobs until being employed by US Civil Service on June 16, 1971 as a work order scheduler for the civil engineering squadron. She was Civilian Employee of the Quarter, January-March, 1989. She retired on September 30, 1998 and they continued to make their home in Emerado.
Dorothy was awarded the Exemplary Service Award by the city of Emerado for 9 years as municipal judge from August, 1987-July, 1996; and also served on the city council. Dorothy was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Emerado where she enjoyed being in charge of the church fellowship service. She was a member of the Emerado Fire Department Ladies Support Group, Emerado-Arvilla Lioness Club and the American Legion Auxiliary of the Grand Forks Post 6.
Dorothy was a good wife and mother.
Surviving members of her family include her husband Jim Johnson; sons: Terry (Wendy) Johnson, West Fargo, ND and Scott (Nancy) Johnson, Everett, WA; Grandchildren: Michael (Kelsey) Johnson, Adam Johnson and Jennifer Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert L. Bannerman.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Emerado, ND. Bakke Funeral Home assisted the family in Larimore, ND.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas.
