Dorothy J. Rettig, 80, of Topeka passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at a Manhattan care facility. She was born on April 14, 1925 in Burr Oak, the daughter of John J. and Laura A. Swoveland Engel. Dorothy had lived most of her life in Topeka before moving to Manhattan in November of 2000. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose. Dorothy married Richard D. Cain on September 3, 1945 in Topeka. They were divorced. She married Norbert Rettig on November 24, 1974 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in October of 1995. Dorothy was also preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Thomas in June of 2000. Survivors include one daughter, Carla Robker and her husband, Gerald of Manhattan, six grandchildren, Michelle Noble, Bruce E. Moore, Meganne Welchhans, Travis Lindsay, Catherine Parcaro and Blake Lindsay and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Burial will follow. Dorothy will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 S.W.
