Dorothy Helen Stafford, 93, passed away June 17th, at Midland Hospice House after a short illness.
Dorothy was born April 29, 1920, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Izone and Milton Waldy Sr.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1938 and attended business classes at Washburn University. She worked several years at Seymour Foods and retired from Goodyear after working 30 years in the payroll department.
She was an independent woman who lovingly raised three children basically on her own. She was the best cook and no one could make pies like her. She was a wonderful seamstress, enjoyed raising tomatoes, and faithfully watched the shopping channel. She had to have been one of the shopping channel's best customers. It seemed there was always a package on the front doorstep when one of us would visit. However, most of all she loved her family and delighted in seeing and hearing about her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Stafford and brother, Milton Waldy, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Sibley and Mary Dalton (Steve); son, Daryl Rhoades (Jan), all of Topeka; grandchildren, Carol Jarvis (Mark), Maegan Leavendusky (Toby), Stephanie Rhoades, Ashley Rhoades, Chris Rhoades; and nine great grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held for the immediate family at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Services will begin five minutes late to honor Dorothy and her favorite saying…"I'm running a little late."
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Connections or Helping Hands Humane Society.
Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
