Dorothy Carolyn (Gustafson) Jones, 97, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
She was born March 30, 1922, in Norway, Michigan, the daughter of John and Edith (Moody) Gustafson. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Washburn University.
She was a dedicated elementary teacher for USD 501 for twenty-two years having taught at Belvoir and Stout Elementary Schools. She continued substituting for several years after her retirement.
Dorothy married Gomer J. Jones on June 30, 1951 in Scranton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1994. Survivors include daughters, Carolyn R. (Frank) Kroeker and Janet C. (Donald "Jerry") Johnson; brother, James M. Gustafson, Ph.D.; grandchildren, Sarah (Kyle) VanLanduyt and Anne (H. Dean) Zajic; great-grandchildren, Skye VanLanduyt, Clara Zajic, Julia Zajic and Katie Zajic. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul M. Gustafson, Ph.D.; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Gustafson, and sister-in-law Louise Gustafson.
The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at Brookwood Covenant Church, 3601 SW 33rd St., Topeka. A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2019 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Brookwood Covenant Church 3601 SW 33rd St. Topeka, KS 66614.
