Dorothy Ferne Fowler

Dorothy Ferne Turrentine Fowler died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at her home with her family by her side. She was born January 5, 1931 at Wetmore, Ks., the daughter of newspaperman Carl Frederick and Merle May Mayer Turrentine. She moved to Topeka in 1942 and graduated from Topeka High School in 1949. Dorothy attended Washburn University. She worked for various agencies for the State of Kansas, retiring from the Department of Health and Environment. She was a resident of the Berryton and Richland area for many years. She belonged to Overbrook Bible Church and later attended Southwest Bible Church. Dorothy married Robert Ray Fowler on March 15, 1952 in Topeka. He died in December of 1982. She was also preceded in death by a son, Nathan Fowler in November of 1995. Surviving are three daughters, Darcy Stamm of Tecumseh, Jan Monhollon of Ozawkie and Susan Fowler-Hentzler of Topeka, a daughter-in-law, Crystal Fowler-Srna of Culver, Ks., two sons, Thad Fowler of Lyndon and Matt Fowler of Lawrence and fourteen grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Mrs. Fowler will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. The casket will remain closed.
