Dorothy D. Lane

Dorothy D. Lane, 94, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born on June 5, 1912 in Burlingame, the daughter of Jacob and Ila Hess Terrill. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1928. She had resided in Topeka since 1953. She and her husband owned and operated Otis Lane Automotive & Wrecker Service. Dorothy married William E. Root. He preceded her in death. Dorothy married Otis L. Lane on April 23, 1960 in Rulo, NE. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Terrill. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy D. Root and wife, Carol of Springfield, MO, Joseph D. Root of Delia, one daughter, Kathleen A. Root-Montgomery and husband, Howard of Topeka, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday on the Garden Chapel at Topeka Cemetery. Burial will follow. Dorothy will not lie in state. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128.
