Dorothy Ann (Huff) Burris, 91, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Midland Care hospice in Topeka, Kansas.

She was born May 3, 1931 in Cherokee County, Kansas to Henry and Emma Lucille Huff.

She married Elmer J Burris, Jr. at Erie, Kansas on December 26, 1950. He preceded her in death on October 22, 2020. She was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Burris, and a grandchild, Bradley Schnacker; her parents; a sister, Betty Lou Huff, and two brothers, Doyle Huff and Marvin Huff.

Survivors include a son, William Burris of Kansas City, Kansas, and three daughters, Melinda Sneary (Larry Hinton), Raelane Schnacker (Lonnie) and Carol Burris, all of Topeka; 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Keith Huff (Nancy) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Gayle Huff (Carolyn) of Parsons, Kansas.

Immediately following their marriage, Elmer left to serve two years in Korea while Dorothy remained in Parsons, Kansas. Upon his return they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they stayed for 7 years before moving to Topeka for a short time. They then moved to Newton where they lived for 10 years before moving back to Topeka where they made their final home for the past 43 years. Dorothy was employed by Topeka USD 501 in the school cafeteria for several years.

She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and had a talent for cooking. She will be especially remembered for her Burnt Butter pies she made for family gatherings. She and Elmer were past members of TopKan Square Dance club in Topeka and Circle Eight club in Newton Kansas.

A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, August 26th, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Memorial donations may be made to Midland Hospice.
