Dorothy Brink Armstrong, 100, died August 5, 2011. She was born October 9, 1910 to John T. and Laura Pearson Brink in Topeka, KS where she lived for 96 years before moving to Lawrence, KS. She attended Topeka schools and graduated from Washburn University where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and was elected to Nonoso, senior women's honorary society.
Dorothy married Chris W. Armstrong, August 21, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Elizabeth Hoover, and three brothers, John, Daniel and Philip Brink.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Jim) Bowen, Pittsburg, KS; two sons, Chris (Carol) Armstrong, Jr, Lawrence, KS and Jim (Riley) Armstrong, Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Ashley, Whitney. Virginia, John and Will Armstrong; three step grandchildren, Mark, Gretchen and David; 10 step great grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Brink, San Mateo, CA.
She was a member of the Washburn Alumni board, president of the Washburn Alumni Association, was appointed to the Board of Trustees, on the executive board of the Washburn Endowment Association, and awarded the Washburn Distinguished Service Award. She was on the Board of Directors of the Civic Symphony Society for many years, was president of Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas, Board of Director of the Shawnee County Historical Society, was a member of Chapter DF of P.E.O., and was a volunteer at Stormont-Vail Hospital for many years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon and Elder.
She was a dedicated world traveler.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, August 29th at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS. A reception will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chris W. and Dorothy B.
