Doris Elaine (Carter) Ringen, age 91, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on July 9, 2024.
Doris was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on July 1, 1933, the daughter of William and Christina (Gurtler) Carter.
The family lived in Clark County, Missouri, and later moved to Arizona where Doris graduated from Gilbert High School in May of 1951 as the valedictorian of her senior class. She then attended and graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S. in education.
She married Willis Eugene Ringen on May 25, 1955. After they moved to Kansas, Doris taught school in the Tuttle Creek area and Willis was a VoAg teacher. Doris and Willis also resided in Waterville, Beloit and Beattie, Kansas.
After raising their family, they moved to Topeka in 1986. Doris was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women.
Doris took pride in being an Arizona State University graduate and was a lifelong fan of the Sun Devils. She took much pleasure in her family and cherished her time as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and infant brother John William Carter.
She is survived by three children, Terry (Marilyn) Ringen of Ruskin, Nebraska, Kristi (David) DeForest of Fulton, Missouri, Deron (Cara) Ringen of Acworth, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Mike and Matt Ringen, Sharla Wendeln, Bridget Aldrich, Lindsey Foster, Ashley Pyle and Carter Wilch; 13 great-grandchildren, Neveah, Eden, Willa, Alayna and Leo Ringen, Debreigh and Aceson Wendeln, Ivy and Molly Aldrich, Jayden, Kennedy and Ruby Foster and Arlo Pyle.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Penwell-Gabel Chapel.
Burial to follow at Beattie Union Cemetery.
