Doris M. Myers, 89, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Midland Hospice House surrounded by family. She was born on March 10, 1920, in Valley Falls, the daughter of Travis and Mildred (Hurst) Evans.
She was a graduate of Valley Falls High School.
Doris married Ray Myers on May 6, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1996.
Doris retired from Hallmark Cards in 1980.
Her favorite pastimes included cooking, baking, dancing, playing cards and bingo. She loved caring for her grandchildren and family.
Doris was a member of Women of the Moose #555.
Survivors include son, Jerry Myers of Scranton; daughters, Cheryl (Gerald) Glover and Patricia (Steve) Murray and son, Orville (Sandra) Myers, all of Topeka; 4 siblings: Lois Thompson, Virginia Wolf , Betty Parks and Bill Evans; 11 grandchildren: David Myers, Larry (Merry) Glover, Steve (Sivi) Murray, Mike (Beth) Glover, Brad (Kim) Murray, Pam (Dennis) Brown, Ryan (Lindsee) Myers, Dusty Myers, Lyra-a-d (Scott) Spoonemore, Terri (Clay) Lee, Tony (Kim) Young; 19 great-grandchildren: Megan (Levi), Parker, Kelsey, Kylea, Kelby, Sidney, Tiffiny, Jessica, Brett, Zach, Samantha, Scott, Sam, Skyler, Justin, Jason, Krystal, Kyle, Katelyn and 1 great-great grandchild, Reid.
Preceding her in death were her siblings: Bernice Evans, Leola Evans, Gerald Evans, Letha (Haukenberry) Verbeck, Elinor Spencer, Jessie "Travis" Evans, Vaughn Evans, Gladys McPherson, and a granddaughter, Stacie Ann.
Doris will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. tomorrow with a visitation from 6:00-7:30 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
