Doris M. Swenson, 81 of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at a Topeka retirement center. She was born on April 27, 1924 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Ira H. and Cirrelda A. Etter Sandlin. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1942. She had resided in Topeka since 1947. She was a member of First Congregatonal Church for over 50 years where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, a Bible School Teacher and sang in the church choir. She was also active as a Girl Scout Leader for both of her daughters. Doris married Harold J. Swenson on September 6, 1943 in Kansas City, KS. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Sandra S. Swenson-Scott and husband, John Scott of Citrus Heights, CA, Mary L. Riggert and husband, Reverend Jerry Riggert of Boonville, MO, and five grandchildren, Damion, Cory, Christopher, Erin and Rachel and one great-granddaughter, Maya. They had one son, Donald Lee Swenson, born on August 17, 1944 who passed away at the age of 3 months. His father, serving in the Navy during WWII never got to see their first born. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Doris will lie in state after Noon Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
