Doris Irene Pile, 88, Topeka, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014.
Doris was born May 1, 1925 in Marseilles, IL, the daughter of Samuel and Bessie (Shank) Johnson.
She attended Marseilles schools and graduated from Marseilles High School in 1943. She worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company in Seneca, IL before attending American School of Beauty Culture in Chicago.
She opened Doris' Beauty Salon in 1958 in her home and operated it for over 50 years.
She was a member of Quivira Heights Church of Christ.
Doris married Dr. Donald L. Pile on September 5, 1944 in Marseilles, IL. He died March 20, 2007. Survivors include their children, Forrest "Butch" Pile and wife Ruth, Diana L. Doll, all of Topeka; grandson, Ken Doll and wife, Maggie; and 1 great-granddaughter expected in April, 2014. She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Angela "Angie" Doll; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Quivira Heights Church of Christ. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Doris will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
