Donna L. Johnson

Donna L. Johnson, 93, of Topeka, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at Midland Hospice House.

She was born July 16, 1929, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Norma (Pettijohn) Laird. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1949.

Donna was a Secretary for the Seaman USD 345 School District at Pleasant Hill Elementary for 17 years.

She married Valdemar A. Johnson on June 26, 1949 in Topeka, Kansas. They enjoyed square dancing, playing cards with friends and traveling over the years. Valdemar preceded her in death on December 18, 2012.

Donna was a previous member of the Easter Star Helen Chapter 210, Susan Wesley United Methodist Church and the Plus Squares and Shooting Stars Square Dancing group.

She enjoyed cross stitch, puzzles and reading in her spare time. Donna loved decorating for all of the holidays.

Donna is survived by her children, Cheryl (William) L. Hodges of Bella Vista, AR and Mark (Kathy) E. Johnson of Hoyt, KS; two sisters, Shirley Rudolph and Norma Douglas; grandchildren, Kristina (Joseph) Matsapto and Blake (Melissa) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Josie Matsapto, Caden Johnson, Makayla Johnson and Kamryn Matsapto and great great-grandchild, Ayanna Matsapto. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Bettie J. Sweigart, and Edward A. Laird.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604. Her family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Lexington Park Independent Living for resident activities, 1011 SW Cottonwood Ct., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
