Donna Grimes, 86, of Topeka, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
Donna was born on January 20, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas the daughter of Emery and Bertha (Jones) Shimer. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended the University of Kansas.
She married the love of her life, Jim N. Grimes on June 6, 1948 in Lawrence, KS; he preceded her in death on June 16, 1976. She was also preceded in death by both of her parents, her grandson Jeremy Platt, and her second husband Max Decker.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (John) Platt of Wellington, FL, Janet Grimes and Rebecca (Jeff) Clarke of Topeka; two sisters, Virginia (Dr. William) Martin of Topeka and Kathy (Jim) Payne of Austin, TX; one brother, Jim (Shirley) Shimer of Wichita, grandchildren, Lisa Barbanente, Hannah (Dr. Cody) Heston, Rachel, Ian, and Nati Clarke as well as many nieces and nephews.
Donna was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church where she was an active participant of the Women's Society. She was a member of DF Chapter of PEO, and Druggist Auxiliary. Donna worked for many years for the Kansas Medical Society. She enjoyed playing golf, traveling, working in her yard, and attending her grandchildren's school and sporting activities.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St. in Topeka. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Topeka Zoo or Crestview United Methodist Church.
