Donald E. Whitman

Donald E. Whitman, 90, Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017.
Don was born October 7, 1926 in Rockland Township, PA, the son of Walt and Cecilia (Allen) Whitman.
He graduated from New Wilmington High School and Sterling College in Sterling, KS.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed as a Corrective Therapist at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Hospital retiring in 1984.
Don married Margaret "Janice" Elkington on June 2, 1951 in Topeka. She died October 2, 2014.
Survivors include son, Neil Whitman; daughter, Cheryl Whitman, both of Topeka; grandchildren, Michael (Leah) Dinwiddie, Topeka, Jeremy (Carrie) Dinwiddie, Topeka, Chelsea Whitman, Springfield, MO; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Mount Hope Chapel one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions can be made to: Voluntary Service, c/o Denise Cunningham, VA Medical Center or the charity of your choice.
Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
