Donald Pettijohn

Donald Immanuel Pettijohn, 94, Topeka, died February 8, 2004, in St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Pettijohn worked for the AT&SF Railroad for 38 years before he retired in 1974. He had previously worked for Green's Grocery and the A & P Grocery.
He was bom July 7, 1909, on a Hoyt farm near the Jackson/Shawnee County line, the son of William L. and Cora L. Hoffman Pettijohn. He lived on the farm west of Hoyt until moving to Topeka in 1929. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1929.
Mr. Pettijohn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Topeka for over 70 years, where he served as an usher for many years and attended the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge #51 and the Santa Fe Old Timers.
He married Mabel Louise Bloch on November 29, 1933, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2001. Survivors include two granddaughters, Kathryn Davies of Apex, NC, and Sharon Murdock of Overland Park, KS, two great-grandsons, Ben and Josh Murdock, daughter-in-law, Norma Pettijohn, two grandsons-in-law, Jeff Davies and Kyle Murdock, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Pettijohn was preceded in death by his only child, Ronald Dale, on June 23, 1991.
Services will be at First Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 11, at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Pettijohn will lie in state after 8:00 AM Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
