Donald L. Merwin

Donald L. Merwin, 93, of Emporia, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born September 10, 1927, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Earl and Ethel (Baxter) Merwin. He attended Emporia High School. While in high school, he entered into the Navy Reserves and later went back to school and graduated.

Donald was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad as a clerk for 44 years, retiring in December of 1988.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Emporia and served as a deacon for Westside Christian Church in Topeka.

Don was an avid sportsman. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and watching college sports especially basketball and football. His favorite teams were the Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas City Royal's.

He married Luretta Smith in 1950 in Emporia, Kansas. After her passing in 1969, he married Donna Jean Flint in 2003 in Topeka, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; daughter, Pam Green; step-sons, Kevin Bailey and Kraig Bailey; step grandchildren, Derrick Bailey, Karen Bailey; and EX-Son in law, Nick Green. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marshall Wilson Merwin, and Ronald Merwin; and Ex-Son In Law, Phillip Morse.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th street, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
