Donald E. Madl, 81, Topeka, died on Friday, August 19, 2005 at a local hospital.
He was born May 5, 1924 in Eudora, one of twelve children born to Edward J. and Ida G. Schoenhofer Madl.
Don served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and obtained the rank of Master Sergeant.
Don received his Bachelor of Education degree from Pittsburg State Teachers College and Masters of Education from Fort Hays State University. He started his teaching career at the Plainville Rural High School and later moved to Topeka where he taught at Topeka High School and Jardine Middle School. He retired in 1985.
After retirement he enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with his family. During his travels, he visited 35 foreign countries.
Don married Annabel Heisman on December 27, 1950 in Kansas City. They later divorced. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Quinn and her husband, Tom-Tom, Topeka; a son, Jim Madl and his wife, Cathy, Tecumseh; a daughter; Donna Madl Davenport and her husband, Brad, Tecumseh; a son; Tom and his wife, Marsha, Topeka; and a daughter; Judy Madl, Mims, FL; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; a brother; J.D. Madl, Overland Park; two sisters, Maxine Hack, Lawrence and Margaret Stephens, Edgerton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
An informal gathering will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at Assumption Catholic Church. Private family inurnment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Marian Clinic, 1001 SW Garfield, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
