Donald A. "Lindy" Lindensmith, 84, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at a local hospital.
Don was born November 29, 1921 in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Arthur and Mary Monch Lindensmith. He graduated from LaCross High School in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946 in the Fiji Islands of the South Pacific. He also served the National Guards of the Army, Navy and Marines.
Don was employed as a Trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol from 1953 to 1978. He was one of the first troopers to serve on the Kansas Turnpike. He was a lifetime member of the Capital Area Major Case Squad in Topeka. After retirement he worked for the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority and then Capital Area Police for 14 years.
Don married Patricia J. Keagle on January 23, 1958 in Bonner Springs. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Sandra Johnson, Pampa, TX; two sons, Kurtis Lindensmith and wife, Kimberly; and Mark Lindensmith and wife, Michelle, all of Topeka; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A sister, Marguerite Williams, San Lorenzo, CA, and brother; Edward Lindensmith, Wichita also survive.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Don will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
