Don Hoback, age 83, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by love.
Born on June 23, 1941, to Helen (Lea) and William Hoback, Don enjoyed a lively childhood filled with adventures and laughter. His journey of love began when he met and married the beautiful Thelma Hoback on June 18, 1961. Together, they cherished a life filled with joy, raising two children and creating fond family memories.
A proud veteran, Don dedicated his life to his country, serving honorably in the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force, where he held the rank of Master Sergeant as a Military Police Officer. He later retired from the 190th Air Refueling Wing, exemplifying a commitment to service to the military and his country.
In addition to his military career, in the early 1970's he was a member of the Sheriff's Posse in Holton, Kansas. Don was also an active member of the First Santa Fe Trail Muzzleloaders. He deeply valued the friendships he formed throughout his life, cherishing trips to Branson, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and monthly visits playing at the casino.
In his later years, Don established his own leather business. He was known for hand-crafting fine saddle and tack, wallets, belts, purses, and more - often giving away more than he sold, reflecting his generous spirit.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma, along with his parents, William Hoback, and Helen and Roland Kampschroder; and his siblings, LaVon Nolan and Robert Hoback.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelley (Kirk) Will; son, Donald (Denise) Hoback; granddaughters, Candis (Doral) Mayfield, Heather (Kyle) Austin, and Shade Downs; grandson, Matthew (Ashley) Hoback; and 13 great-grandchildren who brought joy and excitement to his life, and kept him on his toes!
