Donald Warren Hemphill, 84, of Topeka, passed away October 15, 2012, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka.
Don was born on January 1, 1928, in Norton, KS, the youngest of three sons born to Robert and Ruth (Eaton) Hemphill. He graduated from Norton High School and Fort Hays State University. Don served in the US Air Force in 1951-1955, and enjoyed the opportunity to travel in parts of Europe, especially Switzerland, France, and Germany. He worked for many years as a Nursing Assistant for the VA Hospital in Topeka, until his retirement in 1991.
Don was a devoted and caring husband and father. Don married Marcia McCue on May 2, 1959, in Miami, OK. She survives at the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Carol Hemphill, and sons, Michael and Mark Hemphill, all of Topeka, a grandson, Michael Hemphill, Jr., a great-granddaughter, Michaela Hemphill, nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Lisa Ann Hemphill, and two brothers, Richard and Robert.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012, at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, I-70 & Auburn Road, Topeka. A reception will follow at St. David's Episcopal Church, 17th & Gage, Topeka. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, is assisting the family with arrangements.
