Donald J. Greene, 90, passed away June 24 at Midland Hospice House. He was born January 24, 1918 in North Loup, Neb., the son of Leslie and Ethel (Bond) Greene. He married LaFerry G. James on July 9, 1941 in Topeka. Mr. Greene was a U.S. Army Veteran with a rank of Staff Sergeant serving during WWII. He was a life member of the American Legion.
He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka where he served as a Deacon. He was a retired maintenance foreman for the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
Survivors include; his wife, LaFerry, of the home; a daughter, Cindy Walsh and her husband, Gerry, of Port Townsend, Wash.; a son, Richard Greene, Topeka; and three siblings, Loren Greene, Topeka, Ira Greene, Jackson, Calif., and Irene Ethridge, Salina; four grandchildren, Debbie, Lisa, Nicole, and Matthew; eight great grandchildren, Zachary, Dylan, Nicholas, Arianna, Wesley, James, Michaela and Sara; and three great great grandsons, Anthony, Brelyn and Braden. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne and a sister, Geraldine Hess.
Funeral service for Mr. Greene will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, at First Southern Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 26 at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel.
