Donald G. Burman, 83, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at a local hospital.
Don was born November 15, 1927 in Topeka, the son of William and Wilma Irene (Underwood) Burman.
He graduated from Highland Park High School and attended Kansas State University.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a Fieldman with Farmland Industries for 27 years and later was self employed as a Financial Consultant, retiring in 2000.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Topeka Beautification Association, the Marine Corps League, and volunteered with Big Brothers.
Don married Martha Thaxton Russell on July 29, 1951 in Downey, CA. She died September 9, 2005. Don married Mary Ann Cook on July 27, 2007. She survives. Other survivors include son, Don M. (Gina) Burman, Lawrence; daughters, Susan (Jon) Lattin, Lawrence, Sara (Mark) Newby, Tuxedo, NY; 7 grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Brown, Topeka; many nieces and nephews and innumerable friends. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Marilyn, Naomi and Norma.
Don, Martha and family lived in Clay Center from 1963 until 1981. All three children graduated from Clay Center Community High School.
Don will be dearly remembered as one who loved well and lived well; always protecting, always trusting, always hoping, always persevering. (I Corinthians 13:7)
Services celebrating Don's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 3033 SW MacVicar. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Don will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with visitation from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
