Donald E. Briggs, 87 of Topeka, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014. He was born on March 15, 1927, in Topeka, Kansas to Grant W. and Lucille P. Briggs.
On June 18, 1947, Donald married Dorothy M. Breight at Assumption Catholic Church. She passed away on January 13, 2011. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II, was skilled as a carpenter, and retired as a construction superintendent. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he achieved Fourth Degree Knight and served as Grand Knight.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold Briggs, and sister Betty McDermeit.
Donald is survived by nine children, Deborah (Duane) Pomeroy, Topeka; Denise Myers, Hoyt; Delthea (Brad) Winsor, Topeka; Dianna (Tim) Halpin, Olathe; Doreen (John) Fitzpatrick, Hazelwood, Missouri; Donald Briggs II, Topeka; Darold Briggs, Fort Worth, Texas; Dauane (Laura) Briggs, Salina; Darren (Belinda) Briggs, Selma, Texas; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister Patsy (Raymond) Mabon, Wakarusa; and sister-in-law Margaret Briggs, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 14 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
