Donald Lee Doel

Donald Lee Doel, age 81, was reunited with his wife of 35 years, Carol, on December 12th 2024. Don, who was a talented, hard-working farmer was born in Topeka Kansas to the parents of Earl and Alyse Doel. He ventured away from home, traveling the world with the US Navy during his 4 year service in the Vietnam era. He was the lead sonarman on the USS Rogers (DD-876) and a proud Navy man. Later in life, he and his wife Carol enjoyed civilian cruises where "The food is better and I didn't have to work 12 hour days." 

Don graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a business degree, which helped the Doel farm survive during tough economic times. For 4 generations, the Doel farm in Topeka, KS has been a place of stability and a meeting place for family and neighbors. For many, the memories there will last a lifetime. Don had a great sense of humor, often seen wearing a T-shirt saying, "Friends don't let friends drive red tractors" or "I'd wrap THAT in bacon." 

Don was a HUGE animal lover. From the many dogs he had over the years, to the barn cats, turkeys, squirrels, and even crows. He fed them all and loved the company. -in 2016, Don moved to Oregon to be near his son and daughter-in-law Richard and Sonia Doel. Don was able to enjoy the pacific northwest and the company of his kids. 

Don is survived by his only son, Richard and his wife Sonia Doel. His unity with Carol blessed him with a son and daughter by marriage Susan Haefele and David Varner, 7 grandkids and 13 great grandkids. 

He will be laid to rest at Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka, KS. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St, Topeka, KS 66604.
