Donald D. Proper, 84, of Tecumseh, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at Midland Hospice House.
Don was born on February 13, 1929 in Topeka, the son of William B. Proper and Mary (Burrell) Proper. He attended Seabrook Grade School and graduated from Highland Park High School.
He retired from Adams Business Forms after 45 years as General Foreman over three departments. He served 28 years on the Tecumseh Township and Fire Department Boards.
Don served in the United States Air Force from 1951- 1955 during the Korean War and was awarded Airman of the Month in April 1955 at Ramstein Air Force Base in Ramstein, Germany.
He was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, Tecumseh Kiwanis, American Legion Post #1, Topeka Lodge #17, Scottish Rite, and Arab Shrine.
He married Charlene Hennessey on April 29, 1950; she survives of the home. Don is also survived by two daughters, Becky Herl of Topeka and Cheryl (Dan) Sterling of Tecumseh, grandsons Joshua and Nathan Sterling, one brother, Robert (Janice) Proper of Topeka, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Florence Moll and Lillian Atkins, and one grand-daughter, Anna Sterling.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery, Tecumseh. Don will lie in state after 3 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 SE Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, KS 66542 or to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
